Style Guides and Rules
Russian Translators Union recommendations to translators and clients (Russian, ZIP, Word) - Must be read by all Russian translators.
TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING SERVICES Ukrainian Translators Association general requirements and rules (Russian, RAR, Word) - Useful for Russian and Ukrainian translators.
European Commission Directorate-General for Translation (English, PDF) - a handbook for authors and translators in the European Commission.
Microsoft Style Guides (any language, CHM format) - Style Guides for software localization projects. Can be helpful not only for Microsoft projects.
Microsoft Legal Style Guide (Russian, DOC) - Style Guide for legal translations, especially for Microsoft texts. Can be helpful for other projects as well.
WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION Style Guide (English, PDF) - house style for use in all WHO-HQ printed and electronic materials. Useful for medical and other translators.
The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (English, online) - prescribes the most widely used legal citation system in the United States. May be interesting for legal translators.
The Times Style and Usage Guide (English, online) - aims to provide writers and sub-editors with a quick reference to contentious points of grammar and spelling and to guide them through specialized areas where confusions have arisen in the past. May be interesting for English translators.
The Guardian, Observer and guardian.co.uk style guide (English, online) - guide to editorial style and the use of good English. May be interesting for English translators.
The Economist Style Guide (English, online) - This guide is based on the stylebook which is given to all journalists at The Economist. Useful for all English translators.
Translation Memories for CAT
Microsoft glossaries for Trados (Size: 78.43 Mb) - This may be helpful for IT translators, especially for those who localize Microsoft software. Microsoft publishes its glossaries in .csv format, which is difficult to deal with, especially when you translate with CAT tools. That's why we used various software to convert these glossaries into Trados .tmw format.
