About the client
Delphi Technologies, now part of PHINIA, was a global leader in automotive emissions, fuel economy, and aftermarket solutions. It operated in 24 countries with over 20,000 employees, including 5,000 engineers. In 2023, it was spun off by BorgWarner into PHINIA.
The challenge
As Delphi Technologies transitioned a key unit from Hungary to Poland, they faced the critical need to translate vast amounts of technical documentation. They approached Translators Family to ensure accuracy and efficiency in this complex task. After successfully completing a rigorous test translation, we secured a contract to translate over 4 million words (15,000 pages) in the upcoming years.
The project presented several unique challenges:
- Rare language pair: Hungarian to Polish translations, requiring niche expertise and specialised linguists with in-depth knowledge of automotive terminology.
- Highly technical content: The documents contained complex jargon and specialised technical terminology, demanding precise and consistent translations.
- Complex file formats: The source files included macros, AutoCAD drawings, and non-editable text, all of which needed to be meticulously preserved in the translated versions to maintain functionality and accuracy.
These challenges required a robust and innovative approach to deliver high-quality results within tight timelines.
Our solution
To meet these demands, Translators Family assembled a team of professional linguists and technical experts:
- Automotive translators and proofreaders, all native speakers of the target language, were selected to ensure precision and readability.
- We created a custom glossary to maintain consistency across all translations.
- We used CAT tools to streamline the process, ensuring efficiency, consistency, and cost savings for repeated content.
- Our dedicated DTP team worked meticulously on formatting and layout, ensuring that all macros, AutoCAD drawings, and complex file structures were preserved in the translated documents without compromising their usability or functionality.
- Each translation underwent multiple rounds of proofreading and a final QA check to ensure error-free delivery.
The Results
- Over 4 million words translated with technical accuracy, enabling Polish engineers to seamlessly adapt to the new machinery.
- Glossary development and CAT tools reduced costs while speeding up delivery timelines.

New challenges
After successful completion of the Hungarian project, we were tasked to translate documentation from English and Polish to Ukrainian. In addition to the written translation, we also provided monthly on-site interpretation during one year at the Delphi plant for the trainings of their Polish engineers in Hungary.
